Check in and out
The full shift wizard, from the check-in method through tasks and breaks to clock-out, with every step, status, and message explained.
Check-in happens inside a shift, not on a standalone page. Tap Begin Shift or Check In on a shift that is ready and Sharkforce walks you through a step-by-step wizard. Your attendance timer starts the moment check-in succeeds.
The wizard layout
A running shift is a guided flow, not a blank timer. The top hero keeps your Status and Total time visible, plus a strip of actions: Resume or Pause to control the timer, Clock Out to finish, and Cancel Shift to leave.
Below the hero, the Shift Progress roadmap lists every step in order. "Every step is clickable. Jump back to review completed work at any time." Each step carries a badge: Current, Done, Pending, or Error. The header shows "Steps 1-3 of 7" style ranges and a percent, and you can move with Next Step / Previous Step or arrow keys.
The step types you can meet
Your admin builds each shift from these step types:
| Step | What it asks of you |
|---|---|
| Time & Place | Review your shift details (window, department, locations, today's schedule) and confirm with Got it. |
| Check-in Method | Prove you are at work using the method your admin set. |
| Location Check | Verify your position against a zone. |
| QR Code Scan | Scan a workplace code. |
| Face Check-in | Verify your face. |
| Task | Complete a single task with evidence. |
| Your Tasks / Task Schedule | Work through your assigned task list. |
| Break | Take a scheduled break. |
| Who's Checking In? | For group check-ins, select people. |
Steps unlock in order: "Complete the current step to proceed to the next one", and the next one "unlocks right after you finish this".
The check-in methods
Whichever methods your admin enabled appear on the check-in step:
- Face Check-in: look at the camera and hold still. A dim room triggers "Need more light"; a mismatch, liveness failure, or missing enrollment each produce a specific message.
- QR Code: scan the code posted at your workplace. Rotating codes refresh so a photo of the code cannot be reused.
- Location Zone: verify your position against the site's boundary, with distance readouts.
If a check-in method fails on the server, the wizard says "Server-side verification failed for this check-in method" and lets you retry rather than losing the shift.
Tasks and evidence
A Task step asks you to do the work and prove it:
- Photo Evidence: "Take Photos (at least
{n})", up to a maximum of 15 photos per task. - File Attachments: "Attach Files (at least
{n})", images only, max 5MB each, securely uploaded. - Notes (Optional): a free-text field; some tasks disable it.
The requirements are explicit before you start ("At least 2 photos are required", "Add at least 1 photo or 1 file to complete this task"), and the button reads Complete Task & Continue (or Complete & Finish Shift on the last step). Keyboard hint: "Press Space to complete • Ctrl+Arrow keys to navigate".
Photo Check
When a task has AI review on, a PHOTO CHECK badge shows on it and every submission runs through automated review. The result comes back as LOOKS GOOD or NEEDS REVISION, and a review panel shows the Score, Why it was flagged, and What to fix. Passing lets you finish the task; "AI approved the evidence. Finish the task whenever you're ready."
Your task list
A Your Tasks step shows your assigned work with a progress header ("You're 40% through your assigned tasks"), an Up Next card, a Must-Do Items card ("Finish these before wrapping up"), and a Time on shift card with Pause Timer / Resume Timer. Finish each task to unlock the next; the finish button is Complete Task or Finish Required Tasks, and it warns "Please complete all required tasks before finishing". Everything saves automatically, so "refreshing won't make you lose anything".
Breaks
A Break step pauses your work without ending the shift. Start, pause, resume, or finish it, with a maximum-duration badge and an overtime warning when you run over. The details are in Breaks.
Clocking out and cancelling
Clock Out always asks first: "Clock out from this shift?" If your required tasks are done it reads "All required tasks look complete. This will finish your shift and save your work." If not, it warns "There are still required tasks left. Clocking out now will mark this shift as incomplete." with Maybe later and Clock Out.
Cancel Shift asks "Leave this shift? We will save your latest progress, but you will exit this shift." with Stay and Exit Shift.
How it ends
The closing screen matches how the shift actually finished:
- All Done! "You've completed your tasks for today" when everything is submitted.
- Clocked out as incomplete with your active time captured, breaks paused for, tasks completed, and a note about the steps that remained, plus "Reach out to your supervisor if this was intentional."
- A specific panel for each closure reason: Auto-Completed, Auto-Closed (no schedule), Clocked Out Early, Marked as Missed (no check-in recorded), Assignment Expired, Workflow Inactive, Shift Timed Out (48-hour maximum), Shift Stalled (24 hours inactive), and Shift Failed with a reason.
Every terminal screen has Back to My Shifts so you can return to your queue.
The methods you see here are the ones your admin enabled under Check-in. If a method is missing, it is turned off for your organization, not broken.
